The London 2012 Volleyball competitions will be held at the historic Earls Court Exhibition Centre in west London. It's not the first time the Olympics have come to this neck of the woods: Earls Court hosted the Boxing, Gymnastics and Wrestling for the 1948 Games.

Nowadays Earls Court is the home of trade shows, such as MasterChef Live, music concerts (this is where Pink Floyd built The Wall) or showbiz gatherings like the annual Brit Awards. The centre is fully equipped with a range of facilities, plus its location in the heart of London and near many hotels makes it an ideal choice for an Olympic venue.

Earls Court first opened its doors in 1937 and is widely considered one of the capital's best major venues for hosting both trade and consumer events. After the Games the future of the Exhibition Centre is yet to be confirmed: in the short term it will continue as an event space, but there is talk of 8,000 flats being built on the site - and even rumours of the Centre being the site of a new stadium for nearby Chelsea Football Club.
