Places to watch Croatia

The Croatian community is one of the smallest in London (an estimated 3,000 to 5,000) but there are still two hubs where loyal fans will gather to watch their nation's Euro 2012 games. It will be a tough job for coach Slaven Bilic, whose side come up against both Spain and Italy in what looks like a very tricky Group C. Londoners will be familiar with Croatia's star man: Luka Modric was the jewel in Tottenham Hotspur's crown this past season – but a good tournament could well see the playmaker join one of the European giants. Also watch out for Everton's Nikica Jelavic, who showed fine form since joining the Toffees in January.

The Academy Bar

57 Princedale Road, Holland Park, London, W11 4NP

Tube: Holland Park Station

Recently rebranded as an upmarket West London gastropub, the Academy Bar still attracts some of its previous – how shall we say? –  rougher and rowdier clientele. Located on the corner of a small backstreet, the Academy is never heaving and it is a nice spot for a drink – although the emphasis is more on food nowadays than plain pints (the burgers come recommended). Strangely enough, the Academy has teamed up with Croatian fans and will show all Croatia's matches in Euro 2012 this summer.

East Village

Tel: 020 7739 5173

89 Great Eastern Street, Shoreditch, London, EC2A 3HX

Tube: Old Street Station

The Croatian Students and Young Professionals Network (CSPYN) have scouted out this Shoreditch favourite as their bar of choice for Euro 2012. There's a special area for football fans and all three of Croatia's group games (plus any knockout matches) will be broadcast. There is an entry fee of £5 but with that fans will receive two free drinks, which seems like a pretty top deal. Those interested in joining London's Croatians watch the game should contact to confirm so that an idea of numbers can be gauged.

The Cadogan Arms

Tel: 020 7352 6500

298 Kings Road, Chelsea, Chelsea, London, SW3 5UG

Tube: South Kensington Station

The Cadogan Arms in Chelsea was one of the premier viewing spots for Croatian fans in London during Euro 2004 and it looks set to take centre stage again in 2012. A well established institution on the Kings Road, the pub has been given a facelift by Tom and Ed Martin – the brothers behind several of London’s most renowned pubs. Over 200 diehard Croatian fans squeezed into the Cadogan Arms in 2004, when the Croats lost to England, and fans gathered there during the World Cup in 2006 also.
