Jumeirah Carlton Tower is a renowned five star hotel in Knightsbridge, located close to Harrods, Harvey Nichols and the designers shops of Sloane Street, it's ideal for a shopping weekend.
The Jumeirah Carlton Tower first opened its doors in 1961 and the majority of the hotel's 216 guest rooms underwent extensive refurbishment in 2012. There's a wide range of different styles, including 58 luxurious suites (some with Jacuzzis and views of the pool or garden) while the 10th floor rooms offer great views across the Knightsbridge skyline. The location, a short walk from the designer shops of Sloane Street, Harvey Nics and Harrods, is ideal for a luxury shopping weekend. And there are three restaurants to choose from including the acclaimed Rib Room Bar and Restaurant, the Chinoiserie for afternoon tea, and The Club Room on the ninth floor. All very impressive but what impresses most is the first class service; nothing is too much trouble.
50 years after it first opened its doors, The Rib Room Bar & Restaurant has been given a new lease of life. Following an extensive refurbishment in late 2011, the arrival of Michelin-starred head chef Ian Rudge from Northcote heralded an exciting new era for one of London's most legendary restaurants. Located in the heart of Knightsbridge and frequented by a diverse mix of famous faces that have included Hollywood stars, politicians, supermodels and even royalty, the Rib Room features a glamorous cocktail bar, two private dining rooms and a cigar terrace whilst the elegant restaurant provides the perfect backdrop for Rudge's modern approach to classic British dishes. The cocktail bar is a tribute a bygone era with a menu that rambles through the English countryside, before tipping its hat to the London dandies of the early 19th century. Central to the cocktail list is a range of premium gins and bespoke bitters, in flavours from ginger to lavender. The wine list is presented on iPads, making selection and matching incredibly easy, whilst the Rib Room's sommelier Louise Gordon is on hand for those who prefer the personal touch.
The ground floor lobby restaurant of the five star Jumeirah Carlton hotel, the elegant Chinoiserie dining and sitting room, is a tranquil setting for breakfast, afternoon tea or an informal get together. Look up to see the ceiling decorated in the Asian influenced Chinoiserie style which was all the rage during the 18th century. Afternoon tea, served daily from 3pm to 6pm to the strains of beautiful harp music, comes courtesy of Eric Lanlard master patissier and star of Channel 4's Baking Mad series who has come up with a special menu of sweet and savoury treats. Fruit and plain scones served with clotted cream and fruit preserve are accompanied by a freshly brewed pot of your choice of tea. For a little extra you can have strawberries and champagne but the cakes and speciality teas are the real attraction, all delicious and light. Within the Chinoiserie is a more intimate section, the Jasmine area, which can be reserved for business meetings, family events or celebrations with friends.
An oasis of calm and tranquillity high above the city on the ninth floor of Jumeirah Carlton Tower, the hotel's luxury spa offers a wonderful range of treatments, from a gentle head massage to a nourishing and rejuvenating body wrap. The Peak Health Club & Spa is open to members and guests of Jumeirah's London hotels and the luxurious facilities include a 20-metre swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms. As well as the gym featuring state-of-the-art equipment there are group exercise classes, a dedicated Pilates studio, personal training sessions and an indoor golf simulator.
