The Goring Hotel London

The only luxury London hotel that is still owned and run by the family that built it.

Beeston Place, London, SW1W 0JW

Tube: Victoria Station

A trip back into a quieter, more civil age, the Goring hotel is still in the hands of the family who have run it since 1910, and they are clearly determined not to let the incivilities of the twenty-first century anywhere near it. The building was designed by Edwardian architect John Evelyn Trollope and is a fine example of Edwardian Baroque, while the gorgeous public areas are decorated in true antique style. There are sixty nine individually designed suites, with the new suites designed by Nina Campbell and guestrooms by Tim Gosling and Russell Sage.  Staff at the hotel are kind, efficient and polite and the location is simply stunning - offering the tranquillity of a country home in central London. The Goring is also home to award-winning afternoon tea and an award-winning dining room, currently being run by Executive Chef Shay Cooper.

The Goring Afternoon Tea

Served in the hotel's lounge bar and terrace, the afternoon tea is award-winning.

Voted the best place for Afternoon Tea in London in 2013 by The Tea Guild, The Goring Hotel sits cheek by jowl with Buckingham Palace and has been owned by the same family for three generations. Appropriately, given its royal neighbour, Kate Middleton spent the night before her wedding here and David Linley is responsible for the decor in the restaurant. His signature classic yet elegant style making the dining room surprisingly unstuffy. The Goring was praised by The Tea Guild judges for the flexibility of the venue where guests can enjoy tea by the fire in colder winter months or take tea in the garden outside when the sun shines. But it's The Goring's "elegant surroundings, faultless presentation and friendly, efficient and knowledgeable staff" that really impress.

The Dining Room at The Goring

Serving a menu of solid British food made with excellent ingredients.

Designed by David Linley, The Dining Room at The Goring succeeds in being elegant without being stuffy. Awarded a Michelin star in 2016 which is has retained ever since, the restaurant is managed by Executive Chef Richard Galli who has created a menu of solid British food made with excellent ingredients from Romney Marsh lamb to fish from Cornwall. The Goring's forager provides a selection of truffles and wild herbs to complement each dish. This old school dining room is one of the last London restaurants to serve roast rib of beef carved tableside on a silver trolley. Regulars can rest assured that firm Goring favourites Eggs Drumkilbo and the signature Lobster Omelette keep their position on the menu. Adding to the dining options at The Goring, a second restaurant, Siren, opened at the end of 2019, headed by Cornwall-based, two-Michelin-starred chef Nathan Outlaw - the hotel's first new restaurant in 100 years.

With deep red walls, a carpeted floor, leather chairs and a roaring log fire, the Goring Bar and Lounge is the epitome of opulence. Run by Irish rogue Brian Kinsella, it's five-star quality without the pretention and proves the perfect destination for an intimate evening drink or a relaxed afternoon beverage. The bar stocks drinks from around the world, including hundreds of reserve malt whisky and vintage wines from the Goring Cellar - the knowledgeable staff are on hand to offer advice. There's also an extensive bar menu that features dishes such as lobster omelette and a club sandwich.

Siren by Nathan Outlaw

The first new restaurant to open at The Goring for more than 100 years.

The Goring, 15 Beeston Place, London, SW1W 0JW

Tube: Victoria Station

The first new restaurant to open at The Goring for more than 100 years, Siren is the latest venture from Michelin-starred chef Nathan Outlaw. One of London's best hotels and a favourite among the Royals, the five-star establishment has long been known for its exceptional afternoon tea and Michelin-starred Dining Room, so it's no wonder that CEO Jeremy Goring called upon Outlaw, renowned for his flagship restaurant, the two-Michelin-starred Port Isaac in Cornwall, and his Michelin-starred seafood restaurant at the Capital Hotel (now closed). A more casual affair than the Dining Room, which remains open, Siren sits within a new Russell Sage-designed space overlooking the hotel's secluded private garden. A menu of dishes inspired by the Goring family's strong ties to Cornwall features cuttlefish black pudding, cured monkfish with ginger, and red mullet with devilled shrimp butter while a menu of daily specials makes use of the freshest ingredients Cornwall has to offer. Desserts provide a taste of British nostalgia with gooseberry pavlova with custard ice cream and strawberry tart with yoghurt sorbet among the options, and the cocktail menu also makes use of traditional British ingredients.
