The Royal Opera House has closed its doors during the coronavirus pandemic, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy its magical ballet and opera productions. The venue is presenting a schedule of free broadcasts and live content that audiences can access from anywhere around the globe via its YouTube channel. The 2010 production of Peter and the Wolf commences the series while further productions on the line-up include Acis and Galatea, Cosi fan tutte, and The Metamorphosis. There will also be a number of masterclasses as well as the chance to look behind the scenes of the world-famous sight.

In response to the cancellation of many of its shows due to the coronavirus pandemic, Sadler's Wells has launched a new Digital Stage. The free online performance platform presents a vast range of content including full-length dance performances, family-friendly workshops and screendance - choreography designed with film in mind. The series commences with Deluxe by BalletBoyz, which was due to be staged at the same time it will now be shown online, while other performances in the series include Wilkie Branson's dance for camera installation TOM and Rumpelstiltskin from balletLORENT. Many of the workshops have been created in order to connect with young children who are now unable to attend nursery or school as well as older generations who are being told to stay at home. Audiences can access the content via the Sadler's Wells Facebook page and performances are available to stream for one week while workshops can be found on YouTube.

 
 
 

The Metropolitan Opera: Nightly Opera Streams

New York's Metropolitan Opera is inviting audiences around the world to enjoy its captivating opera performances with its Nightly Opera Streams. Each day while the opera house sits in the dark, the series will be lighting up homes around the globe with free streams shown directly from its website. Each production only stays live for 23 hours, so be sure to keep an eye on the schedule so you don't miss your favourite. Productions on the line-up include Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmelites, John Adams' Nixon in China and Verdi's Don Carlo.

To make up for the fact that the London Symphony Orchestra can no longer perform its weekly concerts at the Barbican Centre, they're presenting the new Always Playing season. Running from 22nd March, the series sees LSO stream a full length concert from their archive twice a week on YouTube. The series includes special digital programme notes, interviews and playlists and LSO are also offering virtual classical themed quizzes on their Instagram page. Concerts include Verdi Requiem, Stravinsky ballet music and The Rose Lake.
