London area of E3 guide
What to do and where to stay in London's E3 neighbourhood
Throngs of students inhabit Mile End (Queen Mary, University of London is nearby) but it's also home to families and a few born-and-bred Cockneys, some of whom might even remember the Blitz and the first V-1 flying bomb to drop on London, which ravaged the area during World War II. Deep in the East End, many visitors choose not to visit this rough-and-ready part of town, preferring the City sheen of attractions and hotels further west, but that's to miss out on a few gems. Mile End Park literally rose out of bomb-devastated land, but it took another 50 years for the park to be transformed into the innovative haven it is today, with its quirky Green Bridge allowing the park to literally cross the busy Mile End Road. On the edge of the park sit the canal-side warehouses of the interactive Ragged School Museum, which explores Victorian life in the East End. It's also worth visiting Three Mills on the other side of E3, where - on Sundays from April to October - you can see the House Mill, the world's oldest tidal mill.
