London area of NW5 guide
What to do and where to stay in London's NW5 neighbourhood
NW5 is home to the Kentish Town area of the city, another trendy part of North London that's home to more than a famous name or two (Giles Coran, Jon Snow and Bill Nighy, to take a few). The widely accepted explanation of the name of Kentish Town is that it derived from 'Ken-ditch' meaning the 'bed of a waterway'. The area was originally a settlement along the River Fleet, a stream which flowed through the area and today runs underground. Though the area has been heavily modernised, some of the residential parts of Kentish Town date back to the 19th century and are architecturally admired. The Forum, a popular live music venue, is located in Kentish Town along with Rio's, one of London's most famous naturist public baths. The communist revolutionary Karl Marx used to live in NW5 - although it's unknown if the German philosopher was a fan of Rio's.
