Are we alone in the universe? If not, would all aliens be as friendly as ET? The Royal Observatory Greenwich is attempting to answer these questions throughout 2013 with their Alien Season. Exploring the topic that splits opinions worldwide, this display takes an intimate look at the history of our relationship with alien life and the role it has played in both science and culture. Among the events on the line-up are Alien Revolution, an exploration of the development of our opinion on extra-terrestrials and the impact it has had on religion, literature, philosophy, art and film; and We Are Aliens!, this immersive show narrated by Rupert Grint delves into how life on Earth has helped in the hunt for aliens elsewhere in the Universe. Further to this, a number of classic science fiction movies featuring aliens will be screened throughout the series, each of which will be accompanied by a short talk outlining the inspiration behind the movie and the science behind the fiction.

About Royal Observatory Greenwich

This museum of time and space was built by Sir Christopher Wren in 1675. It marks the site of the Greenwich or Prime Meridian - the base point for World Time and the site of Longitude 0. If you time it right, you can watch the timeball drop at 13:00 each day. More about Royal Observatory Greenwich
