The year is 1901 and the 19-year-old Pablo Picasso is a relatively unknown artist outside Barcelona. All this was about to change as this Courtauld Gallery exhibition reveals. Focussing on the remarkable story of the Spanish artist's breakthrough year, Becoming Picasso gives visitors an opportunity to experience the artist's very first masterpieces which mark the beginnings of his famous 'blue period'. On 24th June 1901, Picasso's first major exhibition opened at a gallery on rue Lafitte in Paris, marking the beginning of Picasso's meteoric rise to becoming one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.
About The Courtauld Institute Of Art
