Running since 1923, Bike Week is the UK's biggest mass participation cycling event, promoting everyday cycling for everyone. While details of the specific 2013 events, which take place nationwide, are not confirmed, 2012 saw almost half a million people taking part in the celebrations of cycling across the country. In London last year, the annual All Party Parliamentary Bike Ride, in which MPs and key figures in the cycling world rode the three miles from the London Transport Museum to the House of Commons, marked the official launch of Bike Week.

About Houses of Parliament

Now more commonly known as the Houses of Parliament, the Palace of Westminster began life in 1042 as a royal residence under Edward the Confessor. The major structure to survive various fires, Westminster Hall was built between 1087 and 1100 and is one of the largest medieval halls in Europe with an unsupported hammerbeam roof.
