If you can't make it to The Brit Oval to see England take on Australia for The Ashes (20th to 24 August) you can always come to Regent's Park and watch the leather-on-wicket action on the big screen. What's more, you can bring the whole family, take a picnic and get some cricket lessons - all for free. The Cricket in the Park day is laid on by the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) and Ashes sponsors npower - just one of a series of events taking place across the country to celebrate this very English sporting tradition. Long tea breaks and the leisurely all-day affair make cricket the ideal summer sport. The subject of cake is famously a frequent topic for discussion on Radio 4's coverage. Cricket in the Park has a whole host of other activities going on so while dad keeps up with the innings the kids can get cricketing tips from qualified coaches and play games like large Connect Four. There's also an under 5s play area with toys, ride-ons and a quiet area especially for babies and toddlers. Fancy dress competitions, face painting, workshops and circus skills are all part of the family fun.
