The stage adaptation of the well-loved 1980s film Dirty Dancing is to replace Viva Forever! at the Piccadilly Theatre in the West End, opening on 13th July 2013. The musical previously played in London at the Aldwych Theatre from 2006 until 2011 and has since been touring the UK. This stage version which features all the film hits (Hungry Eyes, I've Had the Time of My Life, She's like the Wind) and the famous reassurance that "nobody puts Baby in the corner" has already endured an all-conquering West End run. Written by Eleanor Bergstein, Dirty Dancing is based on her experiences as a teenager on a family holiday. She adapted it for the stage after realising that nearly 20 years since coming out it is still the bench mark against which all other chick flicks are measured. A lot of boyfriends and husbands are going to get dragged along to this with gritted teeth, but we defy anybody not to enjoy themselves once the curtain rises and the magic begins: "Come on ladies... God wouldn't have given you maracas if he didn't want you to shake them".

About Piccadilly Theatre

A simple exterior conceals this grandiose Art Deco theatre, whose huge auditorium is decorated in shocking pink. Gold and green are the dominant colours of the bars and foyer of the Piccadilly Theatre, with beautiful original light fittings. A patchy production history has included few major hits.
