THIS EVENT ENDED ON THE 3RD AUGUST 2013
With nine sculptures spanning from 1964 to 1991, this exhibition is the most significant Donald Judd survey in London since the Tate Modern retrospective in 2004. One of the most important American artists of the postwar period, Judd's oeuvre - well known for its simple 'boxes' or 'stacks' made of plywood, steel, concrete, Plexiglas, and aluminium - has come to define minimalist art, a label to which the artist strongly objected on the grounds of its generality. The former home and workplace of Donald Judd at 101 Spring Street, on the corner of Spring and Mercer Streets in the SoHo district of New York, opens to the public in June 2013 after a lengthy renovation. If you can't get to New York this summer, the David Zwirner gallery in London offers the next best thing for art lovers looking for an insight into Judd's work.
