Phelim McDermott directs Phillip Glass's prayerful Satyagraha, a tale based on the early life of Mahatma Gandhi and his spiritual progress towards the concept of nonviolent protest. The show broke box office records for a contemporary work at the Coliseum when it premiered at ENO in 2007 and was a huge hit again in 2010, and at the Metropolitan Opera in 2008 and 2011. Now this operatic and epic portrayal of Gandhi, featuring aerialists and beautiful puppetry from Improbable Theatre, returns. Conducted by Stuart Stratford, with Alan Oke reprising his role as Gandhi. Each act is coloured by Gandhi's 'spiritual guardians' - Leo Tolstoy, Rabindranath Tagore, and Martin Luther King Jr. "However one rates the music per se, this show as a whole is a masterpiece. Book now" advises The Independent. View ticket deals for Satyagraha.
