Goodbye PiccadillyFollow the London buses driven to the front during World War I, find out how women made up the transport workforce back home for the first time and how Londoners came under attack from the air as war came to the capital in Goodbye Piccadilly. This major exhibition at the London Transport Museum explores the contribution of London's buses, their drivers, and the upheaval for Londoners on the 'Home Front'. Historic objects on display include 'Ole' Bill', a 1911 B-type bus No. B43 on loan from the Imperial War Museum, requisitioned by the War Department in 1914 for use on the Western Front. Other highlights include First World War recruitment posters, rarely seen propaganda posters, and a 1914 female bus conductor's uniform. Alongside are new interpretations of the impact of war by University of the Arts and Central Saint Martins students.

 

About London Transport Museum

After a two-year, £22 million refurbishment the London Transport Museum reopened on 22 November 2007 revealing more exhibition space than before. The museum travels back through the 200-year history of public transport, arranged according to several themes: London Transport's famous design heritage, the poster collection, public transport during both World Wars and plans for the capital's development in the twenty-first century.
