The iconic movie-musical returns to the West End in David Gilmore's gorgeously Technicolor production of Grease, which had a seven-year run in the 1990s. Back at the Piccadilly Theatre, it's pretty much a note-for-note remake of the movie and though it misses some John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John's charm, it more than makes up for it in energetic dance set-pieces, great singing and wonderful sets and costumes. Above all, it serves as a reminder of just how wonderful the over-familiar songs are, bringing fresh life to Grease Is The Word, You're The One That I Want, Greased Lightning, Hopelessly Devoted To You and Sandy. A fantastic piece of retro 1950s fun.
