King LearBill Buckhurst's King Lear, a small-scale touring production which had a short run at Shakespeare's Globe in the summer of 2013 - when it was staged for just five performances - returns to the London theatre from 6th August 2014. Performed on an Elizabethan-style stage, the well-known tragedy begins as the elderly king, weary of his royal duties, asks each of his three daughters to profess their love for him. Not satisfied by the honest answer of his youngest child he erroneously banishes her from his kingdom. Once he realises his mistake, it's too late and the crazed monarch descends into a madness in this timeless tale of cruelty, greed, divided love and the human condition.

About Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

This replica of the Shakespeare's 16th century theatre, reconstructed just 200 yards from its original site, is the brainchild of American actor and director Sam Wanamaker. Built in wood and thatch, using techniques from 400 years ago, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre opened in 1996. More about Shakespeare's Globe Theatre
