Belgian conceptualist Kris Martin questions the notion of time and our desire with objects and interventions designed to provoke a state of mind. For instance, in 2007 quite literally brought London's most famous art fair, Frieze, to a standstill when he announced a minute's silence over the microphone in a bid to draw the entire crowd's attention to the present moment. This latest exhibition of Martin's work at White Cube's Mason's Yard gallery furthers his on-going interest in themes of destiny, chance, time and material transformation.
In 2000, Jay Jopling's pioneering White Cube gallery - the spiritual home of the Young British Artists - upped sticks from its original home in St James's for a big new space on Hoxton Square. Jopling (who is, after all, the son of a Conservative MP) must have missed the respectable charms of Belgravia - for he opened this second White Cube gallery back in St James's.
