Portrait of the Artist Exploring the notion of artists as celebrities, Portrait of the Artist puts self-portraits by world-renowned artists like Rembrandt, Rubens, Freud and Hockney in the main frame. Images at The Queen's Gallery also include portraits of artists by their friends, relatives and pupils, including the most reliable surviving likeness of Leonardo da Vinci by his student, Francesco Melzi. Themes like the 'cult' of the artist, symbolism and the artist's changing status over the centuries are explored through 150 art works and objects dating from the fifteenth to the twenty-first century.

About The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace

Once Buckingham Palace's resident chapel, the Queen's Gallery was opened in 1962 and holds regularly changing exhibitions. It allows the general public glimpses of rarely seen works of art from the Royal Collection, one of the finest art collections in the world. More about The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace
