Radical Figures: Painting In The New MillenniumThe Whitechapel Gallery puts the spotlight on a new generation of artists this year with its major new exhibition, Radical Figures: Painting in the New Millennium. Focusing on artists who use the body as a tool to tell stories and explore vital social concerns, the exhibition explores contemporary subjects such as gender and sexuality, society, politics, race and body image. Demonstrating how the medium of painting has garnered renewed interest in the past two decades, it puts the focus on artists who have come to prominence since 2000 with works on display by the likes of Michael Armitage, Cecily Brown, Ryan Mosley and Sanya Kantarovsky.

About Whitechapel Gallery

Designed in a distinctive Arts and Crafts architecture style by Charles Harrison Townsend, the Whitechapel, Britain's first purpose-built arts gallery, is renowned both for the beauty of its light, airy space and for embracing the local community in its work. Founded in 1901, extensive refurbishment saw the gallery, reopened in April 2009, double in size. More about Whitechapel Gallery
