Renaissance Impressions: Chiaroscuro woodcuts from the Collections of Georg Baselitz and the Alberti The exhibition features sixteenth-century chiaroscuro woodcuts from the Albertina Museum in Vienna and from the German painter Georg Baselitz' personal collection. Over 100 artworks will be on display that illustrate the revolutionary - albeit shortlived - printing technique that involved the use of a black line block and several colour tone blocks to create a dramatic contrast between light and dark. Works by German artists Hans Burgkimaier and Lucas Cranach who are thought to have pioneered the technique will be included alongside artworks by their contemporaries in France, Italy and the Netherlands.
