Research on Paintings

Using 11 case studies, the Victoria and Albert Museum offer an insight into the way in which art historians establish the nature and origins of oil paintings. A two-year project which saw 200 of the museum's paintings re-attributed or re-identified. Through the free exhibition Research on Paintings we get a behind-the-scenes look at the documentary research and technical analysis which goes into such an undertaking.

About Victoria and Albert (V & A) Museum

The Victoria and Albert Museum (or V & A as everyone calls it) was originally founded in 1852 to inspire and educate British designers and manufacturers. Today it houses over 4 million items spanning centuries and hundreds of cultures. The stunning collection covers European, Indian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Islamic artefacts ranging from ceramics, glass, metalwork and sculpture to costume, armour, weaponry and furniture.
