For three long years the young women of Baghdad have lived in fear of the blood-thirsty King Shahryar, who marries a new bride every night and kills her the very next morning. Relying purely on her imagination, Scheherezade vows to put an end to the violence by weaving seductive and enchanting stories night after night. The Arabian Nights is a feisty modern interpretation of ancient tales and is adapted from The Book of the Thousand Nights and One Night by Mary Zimmerman. It appears at the Tricycle Theatre throughout the Christmas season, so if big brash pantos aren't your cup of tea, this powerful and witty production could be the perfect festive alternative.
Located in Kilburn, the Tricycle Theatre specialises in new work with political themes, and are notable as pioneers of verbatim theatre. The theatre was founded in 1980, and rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1987. After a few more expansions, the Tricycle Theatre now has a 230 seat theatre, in addition to smaller theatre/workshop space (the James Baldwin Studio), a workshop room (the Creative Space), and a cinema.
