The Woman In BlackOne of the less well-known West-End fixtures, this adaptation of Susan Hill's gothic novel has been packing out houses since 1989 through word of mouth alone. In Stephen Mallatrat's stylish adaptation of The Woman in Black at the Fortune Theatre an elderly lawyer hires a young actor to re-enact the experiences of his youth - the events in Hill's original novel - in order to exorcise the ghosts of his past. Suspense is superbly sustained by the two actors, who slip beautifully from past to present. Special ticket deals for The Woman in Black, a fantastic drama, are available via LondonTown.com. With elegantly controlled tension and a great twist, this is one of the best spine-chillers on the London stage. Genuinely terrifying.

About Fortune Theatre

This intimate theatre was built on the site of the old Albion Tavern, and opened in November 1924. The beginnings of the Fortune Theatre were anything but fortunate. The opening play, %u2018Sinners%u2019 by Laurence Cowen, closed after two weeks. Over the next few decades, the Fortune Theatre had to resort to showing amateur plays and during World War II the venue was used by ENSA, the concert party corps of the Forces.
