The second play under the spotlight of The Bridge Project, an extraordinary collaboration between The Old Vic, Brooklyn Academy of Music and Neal Street Productions, is The Winter's Tale. Shakespeare's thoroughly entertaining tragicomedy is playing in repertoire with The Cherry Orchard, with director Sam Mendes and his all-star cast putting on both productions. Stage great Simon Russell Beale plays the over-hasty king whose implacable jealousy towards his wife Hermione (Rebecca Hall) provides the momentum for a series of harsh and fortuitous events in which love doth prevail (in the end). Shakespeare's mix of tyranny and light-heartedness is tricky to get right but - on paper - this cast should pull it off with style. Also starring Sinead Cusack, Ethan Hawke and Richard Easton.
