Matthew Dunster is not afraid to get his hands dirty in the theatre - his "stunning contemporary take" (The Stage) on Macbeth at Manchester's Royal Exchange demonstrates a gritty approach to Shakespeare and he's already regaled the Globe with The Frontline this year, a modern-day approach that "fizzes with life" (The Guardian). These credentials alone make him the perfect director to stage the Globe's first full-scale production of Troilus and Cressida with its bold mix of bloodthirsty war, cynical comedy and tainted passion. Shakespeare's characters from the jaws of Greek mythology fuel the war with a wolfish appetite for more, echoing through the ages with a timeless knell that gives this play a vivid contemporary voice. Plenty of meaty parts and plot lines for Dunster and co. to get their teeth into as Troilus and Cressida play out their love affair against the deep scars of warfare.
