War Music: Notes From The First World WarWar Music at the Royal Academy of Music will look at the role of music in the First World War in an exhibition held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of war. In the war, music was heard on battlefields, concerts halls, camps and churches, reflecting the emotions of war such as pride, nationalism, sorrow, consolation. The exhibition will feature a host of popular songs as well as items such as a gramophone, used in the trenches and camouflaged to avoid detection. It will be accompanied by a lively programme of musical events.

The Royal Academy of Music, founded in 1822 as a bastion of musical excellence includes a school, library and museum as well as staging live concert performances.
