William Kent: Designing Georgian Britain
THIS EVENT ENDED ON THE 13TH JULY 2014

It's 300 years since the Hanoverian accession to the throne so, to mark this significant episode of UK history, the V&A will be staging a major exhibition of the work of one of the periods most influential architects, designers and tastemakers, William Kent (1685-1748). In an era that would go on to see Londons rapid growth, characterised by Georgian squares and terraces, and the emergence of talent such as Robert Adam and Capability Brown, Kent led the way. A polymath who was at home with everything from painting to architecture, landscape design to book illustration, he built an eclectic portfolio that included buildings for the Treasury and Horse Guards; interiors and furniture for Chiswick House, Burlington House and Norfolks Holkham Hall; silverware for the royal family; and the royal barge (now housed in Greenwich Maritime Museum).
