Women Of The Pleasure Quarters: A Japanese Painted ScreenA painted screen from the late-18th century attributed to the Japanese artist Utagawa Toyoharu, 'Coutesans of the Tamaya House' depicts the lives of courtesans in the brothel district of Yoshiwara. On temporary display in Room 3 of the British Museum, Women of the pleasure quarters is a free exhibition which ties in with the museum's major ticketed autumn exhibition, Shunga: Sex and Pleasure in Japanese Art and offers visitors a chance to see a rare six-fold painted Japanese screen considered one of the most important surviving Ukiyo-e paintings of its period.
