On the western flank of Gillett Square in Dalston, East London, stands The Dalston Culture House which houses the world famous Vortex Jazz Club on its first floor and has the restaurant/cafe bar Downstairs@TheVortex on its ground floor which opens directly onto Gillett Square and has an outdoor seating area. The square itself reguarly hosts special events like Dance Nation Dalston which brings a carnival atmosphere to this part of East London every summer with live music and dance displays and workshops. Play Days in the square during the summer offer outdoor fun and games for all ages including table tennis, Gillett Square's own weird and wonderful 'Snug' play shapes for kids and giant chess.
