A cultural centre, shop, cafe and restaurant, Japan House offers a window into Japan from the heart of west London. Located on Kensington High Street, the three floor building gives visitors the chance to experience exhibitions and latest from Japan in art, design, food, technology and retail. Interior designer Katayama Masamichi/Wonderwall has created a calming space that embodies the aesthetic that you'd expect from Japan - minimalist, white and uncluttered with artistic embellishments such as a hanging scroll (kakemono) and seasonal flowers (ikebana). As well as the cafe and The Stand kiosk on the ground floor, there's a gallery, events space and library on the lower ground floor. The more formal restaurant, Akira, on the first floor has been designed as the doma - the space in a home that sits between indoors and outdoors, a kitchen but also a social space where family, friends and neighbours gather.
