The redevelopment of the notorious Ferrier Estate in Greenwich, which was completely demolished to make way for a new £1 billion housing project, Kidbrooke Village has meant the rebuilding of 5,000 homes. Set in 35 hectares of green parkland, the development is described by builder Berkeley Homes as a "new garden suburb" - a claim it lives up to by having a surprisingly green feel. It borders onto attractive Sutcliffe Park, which has a lake and wetlands, while landscaped areas across the 276-acre neighbourhood form a series of "outdoor rooms". Natural playgrounds have been dotted across the site which has a wide variety of birds including herons and kestrels. Not just a cluster of new homes, the area has supporting infrastructure in the shape of local shops, a school, health centre, leisure facilities and a hotel. Transport links are good with trains from Kidbrooke station whisking you to London Bridge in 16 minutes.
