Visitor Information
The London Film Museum, located on the site of the Theatre Museum in the original Flower Cellars in the heart of Covent Garden, is the second to open in after the original museum on London's South Bank, which is now closed. Approximately half of the museum's collection comes from the private archive of founder Jonathan Sands, who started out as resident photographer at Elstree Film Studios before moving into props, special effects and themed events, including staging events and exhibitions for Lucasfilms and Star Wars. Following the success of his South Bank museum (called The Movieum of London when it was first opened in 2008), the London Film Museum Covent Garden launched on 21st April 2012, housed in a building refurbished by architects Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. The museum is free to enter and there's a small fee if you want to use the I-tour, an interactive App which gives visitors the chance to tour the 'Capturing the Shadows' exhibition using the museum's own iPads. The first temporary exhibition is 'Magnum on Set', displaying on set images from the prestigious Magnum Photos photography agency.
