The Michael Werner Gallery, a New York gallery that has a "small but stellar roster of serious painters" (Financial Times), adds to its existing galleries in New York and Berlin with a gallery on Upper Brook Street in Mayfair, its first permanent London home. The "discreet and independent" (Financial Times) gallery, occupying just 2,500 square feet on the first and second floors of a Georgian townhouse, can be found a few doors down from Claridges Hotel. Michael Werner opened his first gallery, Werner & Katz, in Berlin in 1963, a second German gallery opened in Koln in 1969 and the New York space launched in 1990. The London gallery, which is overseen by Kadee Robbins, opens on 27th September 2012 with an exhibition of new works by Scottish born artist Peter Doig who is, "incapable of making a boring painting" - this according to Adrian Searle when reviewing Doig's 2008 Tate retrospective in The Guardian.
