The home of the Royal Institute of British Architects in London, 66 Portland Place houses free exhibitions, a library, bookshop, cafe and bar. Open to the public, the Grade II* RIBA headquarters is the place to learn about architecture past, present and future - including the history of the 1930s building itself, on a guided tour. On the third floor, the RIBA Library has over four million items from 15th century books and drawings to photographs documenting architecture around the world today. A new studio and study space, made using sustainable materials where possible, and located alongside an external terrace, was revealed in 2019. With its bamboo floors, quirky orange cabinetry and drawers made from recycled yoghurt pots, the RIBA Clore Learning Centre is a playful and practical space for workshops where people of all ages can engage with architecture. In addition to the workshops, free exhibitions are staged in the first floor gallery and Architecture Gallery on the ground floor next to the cafe and bar.
