Playing a very active role in the Bedford Park and Chiswick community, St Michaels & All Angels welcomes hundreds of visitors each year, and not just for its religious ceremonies. Hosting concerts throughout the year, the church also organises the annual Bedford Park Festival in June and the Chiswick Book Festival in September. Christmas is a particularly busy time - get there early or it's standing room only. The building itself was designed by the influential Victorian architect, Norman Shaw. He is best known for the old New Scotland Yard building on Victoria Embankment, the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington and the design of country houses, including Cragside, a National Trust property in Northumberland. St Michael's has "probably the best-preserved Norman Shaw interior in London" according to the architectural historian Andrew Saint.
