Visitor Information
The flagship London pub of Yorkshire's oldest brewery, Samuel Smith, the Princess Louise has been carefully restored to her original Victorian layout complete with snugs, removed decades ago, now replaced. In restoring the Grade II* listed pub with its polished hardwood frames and etched and cut glass panels, the brewery has gone against the trend to modernise and gone for restoration instead to magnificent effect. Even the toilets are a work of art. Named in honour of Queen Victoria's fourth daughter, Princess Louise the pub was built in 1872 and refitted in 1891 by architect Arthur Chitty who used craftsmen like Simpson & Sons for the tiles, and Morris & Son for the glasswork. As a pub owned by the Samuel Smith's Brewery, the Princess Louise only sells Sam's ales and beers which are affordable and drinkable.
