The Picturehouse Cinema chain aims to create the perfect local cinema - and in most cases they don't go far wrong. The main screen usually shows the latest blockbusters, but if there's an interesting low-budget, foreign language or art movie released, there'll usually be a chance to see it. There's lots of children's cinema in the holidays, mother and baby screenings, programmes of documentaries, and seasons that reflect the interests of local communities. The funky little cafe-bar offers live acoustic music, and a fortnightly film quiz.
