Forget counting the calories and indulge your sweet tooth at Fitz's, the glamorous bar at Kimpton Fitzroy London, a grand terracotta hotel on Bloombury's Russel Square. The indulgent Afternoon Tea - entitled 'Do You Like Chocolate? - infuses everything from the cocktails to the cakes with top quality cacao. Thibault Marchand, winner of Bake Off: The Professionals 2019 has worked with Sean Fennelly, the man in charge of the hotel's bars, to create the chocolate-inspired menu. It starts innocently enough with four savoury finger sandwiches filled with smoked trout, carrot, fig and tandoori chicken. The next course steps up the indulgent factor with chocolate as well as plain scones to savour and smother with clotted cream, blueberry jam and passion fruit curd. Leaving the most decadent until last, the main chocolate hit is hand delivered on a tiered stand. Four cakes come laced, layered and topped with chocolate. A very grown up afternoon tea (for over 18s only), it's served in the sumptuous surroundings of the hotel's decadent, dimly lit cocktail bar, designed by Russell Sage Studio. Under billowing silk fabric in autumnal colours an outsized glitter ball hangs overhead while you perch on plush velvet seats with scalloped edges. It all amounts to the perfect afternoon refreshment for the festive period. Oh and don't worry if you can't finish it all in one sitting - they'll give you the cakes you can't squeeze in to enjoy at home the next day too.
