Occupying a corner site on Windmill Street BAO is the second restaurant from the team behind BAO, Erchen Chang and siblings Shing and Wai Ting Chung. Following on from the success of the original BAO Bar in Hackney and their first permanent restaurant, BAO in Soho, the Fitzrovia restaurant offers more space, a greatly expanded menu and focus on cocktails, wine, and sake. Using the same tick style ordering system as BAO Soho, the Fitzrovia menu has 'Xiao Chi' (small eats) including cured ribcap, pickles and fermented chilli bean dip, and beef cheek and tendon sausage. Sharing dishes, many cooked on the kitchen's charcoal grill, include crab with rice broth , ox heart with Schezuan dressing , and cuttlefish squid and sausage with XO. Large glass windows let the light flood into the white, modern, and minimal ground floor dining room which features a U-shaped wooden dining bar with space for 26. The basement is quite different, with stools at the open kitchen's counter and metallic walls that make the dining room almost an extension of the kitchen.
