Specialising in shawarma, slow-cooked on a rotating spit over hot coals alongside Middle Eastern cocktails, wine and beer, Berber & Q Shawarma Bar in Exmouth Market is the second Middle Eastern restaurant from Josh Katz and Mattia Bianchi. Josh (previously at Ottolenghi and Galvin Bistrot Deluxe) started experimenting with shawarma at their Berber & Q Grill House in Hackney, but at Shawarma Bar "this wonderful, and eclectic dish" is brought centre stage. Shawarma and rotisserie chicken are served with herb salad, gem leaves, green chilli, grated tomato, tahini and sumac onions. Eat as a wrap or with grilled pita and enjoy with sides such as blackened aubergine, mesabaha or coal-baked sweet potato. For vegetarians there's cauliflower shawarma with golden sultana, rose and pine nuts. And if you don't want to sit in the 40-seat dining room, get yours to go from the take-away hatch, open from 11am daily.
