From Albion & East, the team behind Martello Hall in Hackney and Canova Hall next door, comes Cattivo, a laid back Italian cafe with a basement cocktail bar. A more cosy affair than its neighbour, the menu features food from Southern Italy so you'll find cicchetti, small and sharing plates, pastas, ragus and dolcetti on the list. Cicchetti choices include fried parmesan crisps and there's parmesan served by the ounce. At Cattivo's decadent below ground bar, cocktails have been developed to engage the senses using a mix of concentrates, mists and infusions. It even has its own gin still, named 'Victor'. Sign up for The Gin Blending and Gin Cocktail Making Masterclasses (Thursdays to Saturdays), and head distiller Jack Mannering will show you the craft behind mixing, blending and creating small batch gin. It's part of a lively programme of events which include Showtime Brunch with disco, drag queens and cabaret, Super Soul Sundays with performances, and live music every Friday with DJ sets to take you into the early hours.
