Celebrated pizzeria Franco Manca opened its fourth branch on Northcote Road in Wandsworth and has since fast become a mini-chain with further outlets in Brixton (the original, and the best), Chiswick and Westfield Stratford. Sourdough pizza topped with ingredients like fresh mozzarella - made daily on Lloyd Green's organic farm in Somerset; tomatoes from small co-op of organic producers in Italy; and ham and sausages made in partnership with David Tomlin from the Rare Bread Survival Trust give Franco Manca pizzas the edge. An on-site wood-burning brick oven ensures pizzas are cooked at 500C, sealing the flavours and the moisture of the crust. Wash down with wine by Ottavio Rube, one of the initiators of organic agriculture in Italy. If you think that all this attention to detail is going to cost you, think again. The prices are low enough to eat here everyday. Like all Franco Manca restaurants, the Northcote Road eaterie has a casual vibe, and was made using affordable materials like cardboard.
