Open from breakfast through to night cap, Hoi Polloi (dictionary definition 'the many') is the trendy all-day restaurant and bar in the uber hip Ace Hotel created by the people who brought us Bistrotheque and Shrimpy's, Pablo Flack and David Waddington. With "a seasonal approach to English produce", the restaurant, accessed through the hotel's flower shop, is billed as a modernist brasserie. The design, by Flack and Waddington along with Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby's Universal Design Studio, was inspired by mid-twentieth century European bistros. From the leather banquette booths and hexagonal timber flooring in the informal bar area you move into the larger 100-seat dining room where fluted timber-paneled walls and ceramic floor tiles contain flecked linoleum tables, lit by polished brass light fixtures and custom pendant lights by Philippe Malouin. The same menu is available at the bar (for walk-ins only) as at the restaurant where you can book up to one calendar month in advance. With a breakfast menu of pineapple, pink grapefruit, chili and mint served from 7am, and dinner served until 1am, Hoi Polloi is a hip hangout any time of day or night.
