Pizza Pilgrims James and Thom Elliot have made a name for themselves for serving excellent Napoli-style pizzas from the back of Piaggio van. From August 2013, the pizza loving boys open their first restaurant proper, a Soho eaterie just around the corner from Berwick Street Market where you can often find them and their van. The pilgrimage began when the brothers travelled to Italy, joined up with a TV crew, bought a van and toured the country with the aim of discovering the art of pizza making. They have certainly succeeded. Returning to the UK, they refused to part with their beloved van and instead converted it into a portable pizza oven. Now, they provide lucky Londoners with tantalising Napoli inspired street food at both the market and their restaurant. The pizzeria's menu is simple but effective: Before Pizza, a small selection of olives and bread; Not Pizza, understandably only two options; After Pizza, a tempting range of desserts including a Nutella pizza ring and sorbets, served frozen inside the appropriate fruit skin; and, of course, Pizza! Diners can choose from ten pizzas cooked by Michelangelo - that's the oven's name, obviously - and toppings range from Portobello mushroom and truffle oil to Nduja sausage and wild broccoli. Even the drinks menu is wonderfully simple: Pizza Red, Pizza White and Pizza Prosecco on tap (yes, wine on tap!) and a small selection of other Italian drinks. Pizza Express may be just across the road but, for the real Italian experience, this is the place to come.
