Since opening in June 2013, The Fish & Chip Shop in Islington has been giving diners an upmarket, quality fish 'n chippie. Owned by former CEO of Caprice Holdings, Des McDonald, and former head chef at The Ivy, The Fish & Chip Shop is his first solo venture. Chips are hand cut and double fried, while sauces are made from scratch at this superior fish and chippie which is overseen by executive chef Lee Bull with head chef Steven Wilson (previously at Scott's and Daphne's) in the kitchen. Though distinctly upmarket, the food varies in price including some surprisingly affordable options. There's a cheap and cheerful 'Butties' menu featuring fish finger sandwiches - with freshly made pea puree and crusty white bloomer bread - from £7. But, if you really want to push the boat out there are plenty of pricier options like the sophisticated lobster and avocado bridge roll (£16) or the mammoth shrimp burger (£11). "This is a proper bloody fish restaurant," says Giles Coren, who claims it's "the best thing to happen in North London since, well, the birth of my son".
