Stepping into XU , pronounced 'Shu', takes you on a journey into Taiwanese culture and cuisine. Named after co-founder Erchen Chang's late grandfather, the Rupert Street restaurant is the next venture from the team behind steamed bun specialists BAO. Everything from its food, cocktails and tea to its interiors - reminiscent of the luxury dining rooms of 1930s Taipei - transports diners to Taiwan. By day the ground floor restaurant becomes an authentic Taiwan teahouse with a tea expert serving savoury and sweet dishes while recommending perfectly paired teas. If you prefer the a la carte menu that's served upstairs in the restaurant area. Interiors incorporate warm rich wood panelling, ceiling fans, chandeliers, hand painted murals and there's an emerald lacquered tea kiosk to greet you. A marble bar with pink leather seats is at the heart of the bustling dining room while two Mahjong Rooms on the ground floor seat up to four guests for more private dining.
