The wines at Antidote Wine Bar on Newburgh Street are made from grapes grown without any nasty chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and artificial additives. That really does sound like an antidote to the chemically pumped up ingredients we're used to imbibing. Biodynamic has become something of a buzz-word in wines and Antidote appeals to anyone who is concerned about the hidden chemicals they're ingesting. Following a two month closure at the beginning of 2014, Mikael Jonsson, chef-patron of the Michelin starred Hedone in Chiswick, is overseeing the menus and Chris Johns, former sous chef at L'autre Pied is in the kitchen. This tells you that the food, including bread baked in the basement of Hedone, is a cut above your average wine bar. As well as small plates in the wine bar there's a four course option in the restaurant upstairs, a sample menu includes asparagus, cod, suckling pork shoulder, with oatmeal and caramel parfait to finish. Settling down in this small wine bar in Soho with a glass of something fruity from the Bouches du Rhone region could well be the perfect antidote to the stresses of London living.
