Restaurateur and master sommelier Xavier Rousset, who has already proved successful with Blandford Comptoir in Marylebone and the City's Cabotte, is behind Comptoir Cafe & Wine in Mayfair, a smart yet informal all-day cafe, bar and wine shop. And what a wine shop it is. Around 1,000 wines from all over the world, including up to 100 bins of Champagne, are available to buy at retail prices from the shop or you can enjoy a bottle when dining upstairs for a £10 corkage fee. Situated on Weighhouse Street, behind Bond Street Station where Crossrail's Elizabeth Line comes into central London, the 40-cover cafe and bar serves classic breakfast fare and viennoiserie in the morning, soups, salads and lighter dishes at lunch, and small plates of beef tartare, ceviche and seafood, lobster rolls and charcuterie in the evening. Head chef Ben Mellor, who devised the menu at Blandford Comptoir, also oversees the food here.
