Hidden below the bustling Somers Town Coffee House, Cosy Kettle offers an intimate sanctuary away from the pub crowd. Opened in late 2013, the bar is the latest venture from the award-winning Yummy Pub Co. Headed up by Tim Foster and Anthony Pender, the company now boasts four pubs - two in Kent and two in London - and the Ssshh Supper Club. With exposed brickwork and tiled walls, old kegs used as stalls, and a bar built from drawers, Cosy Kettle combines the industrial and vintage themes that are currently proving popular in the capital. However, further touches such as a beautiful open wine shelf and luxurious toilets, which continue the recycled theme with old gin bottles used as soap dispensers, set the bar apart. Also notable is the bright lighting, a rarity in London's subterranean bars. Bringing cocktails and cakes together, the theme of the bar is indulgence. Cocktails are sectioned off into four categories: Something Sweet, martinis and espressos; Something Fizzy, the cham 69 and bellinis; Something Long, mojitos and gin fizzes; and Something Stiff, the classic old fashioned and margarita on the rocks. The menu may be short but with expert mixologists behind the bar they promise to whip up anything you fancy. Cakes are made fresh daily and provide a delicious and welcome alternative to wasabi peas and Bombay mix.
